Season Program
Fall 2025 Program
Based on our ten-year anniversary exhibition, Rays, Ripplies, Residue, this decadal season extends the spirit of the exhibition into programming that considers, obscures, and cyclically revisits, and at times, re-imagines, the past, present, and future of 421 as witness to the transformations, translations, and adaptations within and surrounding its walls. The seasonal general public programming invites four modalities of translating our past, present, and future.

Spines & Lines: A Bookbinding Bash
19 October 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
In this studio session, we’ll revive these age-old practices of bookbinding and bring them into our everyday lives. Participants will explore simple yet time-honored techniques like stitch binding, staple binding, and tape binding.
Using either the reservoir of handmade sheets donated from last week’s papermaking workshop or recycled exhibition ephemera, magazines, and newspapers, you’ll learn how to stitch bind, staple bind, or tape bind your own book. By the end, you’ll leave with a self-made object, part tool, part artwork, that carries the weight of your own hands and imagination, while adding your story to a longer lineage of makers.
Open to all ages, no prior experiences needed.

Assembling Stories: Turning Fragments into Form
26 October 2025
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
How do fragments become form? How do scattered thoughts, images, and moments turn into a story? This studio session invites participants to confront artist blocks and learn how to shape raw ideas and concepts into thoughtful, repurposed, mixed-media assemblages.
By the end of the session, you won’t just have a finished piece, but also an understanding on how to thread thoughts into form, finding clarity, continuity, and creativity within fragments.

Now, to encourage writers to think more artistically and speculatively, to challenge themselves, draw from their environment, and grow, we’re introducing a special edition: Pencils Down.
