The Public Lecture: Notes from the Agriculture School with Moza Al Matrooshi

How do we respond to issues like food, agriculture and climate when they feel too large and daunting to tackle? Using her ongoing work with bees and beekeepers as a central thread, artist Moza Almatrooshi shares the many ways she has learned to explore a subject: watching closely, spending time in landscapes, building relationships with beekeepers, listening to their experiences, and getting hands-on with materials and ingredients. Moza shares how these encounters have shaped an arts practice that spans culinary experiments, gatherings, and educational projects.

The talk considers an avenue for staying curious and attentive regarding ecological concerns, offering how the act of making can become part of how we observe, question and respond.

The Public Lecture brings audiences into conversation with ideas, questions, and themes that intersect with contemporary art and the world around it. Through encounters with artists, researchers, academics, writers, practitioners, and other interlocutors, the program opens space for critical exchange, collective inquiry, and the sharing of knowledge—extending 421’s role as a site for learning and discovery beyond its campus walls.
