Process+/-Practice: Activations with Artists-in-Residence

This program invites fellow artists and community members to explore the studio practices and processes of our artists-in-residence, Utsa, Reem AlHashmi, and UT-R Studio. Whether through textile, research fragments, performance, or material play, the afternoon centers around their routines, movements, experiments, and the subtle shifts that shape how and why they create.

ENTRUSTING MEMORY TO ICE  led by UT-R Studio

Join us as we come together to create an archive of collective memory in response to the ice melting in the Polar regions. During the session, frozen fragments will be gathered, displayed and allowed to melt in the courtyard.

As the ice thaws, the installation becomes a quite meditation on the fragility of memory, the impermanence of archives and inevitability of environmental loss. It draws a parallel between acts of preservation and the global consequences of climate change.

The session is free to attend; however, registration is required.

The Art of Resist led by Reem Al Hashmi

This workshop introduces participants to the basic principles of resist dyeing.

Resist dyeing is a technique where certain areas of the fabric are covered or protected from dye to create patterns. Different forms of resist include gutta, wax, chemical or natural glue, or stencils. In Reem's textile practice, she use an organic starch-based resist made from rice bran, based on the Japanese Yuzen dyeing technique. From this workshop, participants will be able to witness the transformative process of how dyes are repelled by the resist, and explore how to manipulate this technique to create different visual effects.

The session is free to attend; however, registration is required.

The Magician (working title) led by Utsa Hazarika

This lecture performance introduces research from the 1964 sci-fi fantasy film Jantar Mantar, news reports, and the artist's visual and aural documentation in and around the observatory in Delhi.
The session is free to attend; however, registration is required.
