Interventions on Memory and Musical Ephemera with Nada Almosa

Interventions on Memory and Musical Ephemera is a workshop where participants will build a zine that lives inside a cassette case, made from family photographs, memories, and a song that stays with you.

The program grew out of artist Nada Al Mosa's own archival journey: recovering her mother's cassette tape collection, and arriving at the idea that music holds memory long after a moment has passed. You'll move through a similar process, from observing to recollecting to constructing, using writing, visualization, and collage to shape your own personal archive.

Before the session, gather your own analog music ephemera and family photographs to draw from in the workshop. You'll begin by selecting a tape and writing through observation exercises inspired by artist Joe Brainard, then connect a song to memory through a guided visualization. From there, you'll fold everything, writing, images, and objects, into an eight-fold zine, collaged with embroidery, pressed botanicals, and printed material. The session closes with a show and tell, where you can share your zine and reflect on the process together.

Lunch will be provided.

Participants will also receive a 421 Artist Kit with materials to continue zine-making at home.
