Frankenstein with The Bookclub

This moderated public discussion of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, brings together readers and literary enthusiasts and invites participants to reflect on the novel's enduring themes: creation, responsibility, ethics, identity, and the relationship between humanity and technology.

In collaboration with The BookClub, this session opens with a moderator-led discussion, then moves into informal conversation, giving you space to connect and exchange perspectives with fellow readers. We'll close with smaller breakout discussions, working through a series of guided questions together.

For this discussion, we'll be reading the 1818 text of the novel. If you've already read the 1818 text, consider picking up the 1831 revised edition, so we can compare notes on how the two versions differ.

Participants attending this inaugural book club session will also receive a 20% discount on specialty coffee from Auro at 421.

About the Instructor

The Bookclub is a women-centered reading community based in Abu Dhabi. Since launching in May 2026, we've grown to roughly 300 members across the emirate. The club is age-inclusive and united by a shared love of books, with programming that celebrates the voices of women through open, thoughtful discussion. Our anchor activity is a monthly book discussion, with titles chosen by members through a nomination and voting process. Events are free to attend and community-driven, designed to foster genuine connection and a sense of belonging.

Since starting, we've welcomed a remarkably diverse mix of people, including longtime residents, newcomers looking for community, visitors seeing family, and tourists hoping to experience Abu Dhabi. Through events like this one, we hope to contribute to the emirate's cultural life by creating an inclusive space where people can gather, exchange ideas, and build community through literature.
