Shaikha Al Ketbi

Shaikha Al Ketbi is a visual artist whose multi-media practice spans across photography, video, drawing and installation art. Her work explores themes of self-awareness and blurs the line between fiction and reality. Much of her current practice involves instantaneous ritualistic responses to isolated landscapes framed through her vivid, experiential dreams.

Most recently, Shaikha’s work has been acquired by the Dubai Collection and displayed at the exhibition When Images Speak: Highlights from the Dubai Collection in Etihad Museum in 2021. Previously, her work has also been acquired by the Rhode Island School of Design Museum collection, by the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UAE’s Ministry of Culture and Youth, as well as many prominent regional collectors.

Shaikha is a part of an artist collective named Neither Visible Nor Concealed, of which two other members, Ayesha Hadhir and Rawdha Al Ketbi, produce work collaboratively. The collectives’ most recent activities include showcasing a site-specific art installation in Jebel Hafeet Desert Park within the confines of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The collective’s photography work has also been used as Abu Dhabi Art 2021’s visual campaign, featured on billboards, lampposts and hoardings around Abu Dhabi city.

From the artist:

ASSA DISA (The Sixth (Female))

In no particular order, I find myself tirelessly wandering between these thoughtscapes:

The abolishment of a desire to find an answer

The realization that every sentence ends with a question mark

The dissolve

The transition into the bliss of ignorance

The abandonment of awareness

The becoming of the sixth

The ascending from the sixth to the first

The loss of the sense of space and time

The existence, the existence.

And, if I were lucky enough, sometimes they would allow me to convey them.
