Graduate and postgraduate students are invited to apply for the Exhibition Guides Program at 421. The 421 Exhibition Guides are trained to guide visitors through the exhibitions and gallery spaces, giving them the opportunity to experience and engage with the local arts landscape in meaningful and transformative ways.
As part of our mission to provide the regional community with an inclusive and accessible arts space, the program offers young art professionals with specialized training around how to engage with visitors of all backgrounds. This includes training on how to engage with children, families, People of Determination, and various other audiences.
The training also includes exhibition-specific sessions led by art professionals, curators, and artists whose work is showcased at the 421 campus. Selected participants must attend all training sessions offered by respective specialists at 421, totaling a minimum of 20 hours per exhibition. You are required to attend both online and in-person training before the exhibition and must be committed to giving tours on Saturdays.
You are also expected to commit to a certain number of hours each month to conduct guided tours for various audiences, including families, schools, universities, cultural institutions, and other groups. Before the exhibition concludes, you will need to conduct a total of 16 tours, which may include additional tours on weekdays as necessary, depending on bookings and availability.
Being an Exhibition Guide provides a strong basis for establishing new contacts and meeting people that share the same interests and profession. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the regional creative practice and cultural landscape.
The program runs for four months, from January to April 2025.
This is a paid opportunity.
