Sea Gnome Scarves
Woodblock prints & embroidery on Linen.
By Dina Korchid
Picturesque, like the sea, memories ebb and flow. Like loss, fish displaced and birds migrating. The fishermen restart their daily ritual. Dedicated and always still, gazing into the unknown. Reminiscing and patiently awaiting, for provision, once again. The sun rises, a new day and some hope.
Dina Khorchid received a BS in Visual Communication from the American University of Sharjah (2009) and was a fellow at the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship (2016-2017) and at Ashkal Alwan’s Home Workspace Program (2018-2019). Her process-driven practice explores mark-making and material studies, and a growing interest in textiles, printmaking and interiors. Portrayed as works on paper and fabric, her domestic as well as diasporic outlook on subject-matter navigates a personal space, landscape or language of connection, in relation to the fragility of loss, preservation and memory access. In doing so, she creates a designed order to manoeuvre through the chaotic, nostalgic and anxious mind. Dina’s work has been showcased in group shows across the UAE, in the UK and USA. She is currently pursuing a MFA in Textiles at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD, 2021-2023), where she is a recipient of the Society of Presidential Fellows Award.
The scarves come in two sizes: large and small.
