WAREHOUSE421 PRESENTS SECOND EDITION OF “WEDNESDAYS AT THE WAREHOUSE”

INSPIRED BY THE EXHIBITION DEPARTURE, THE PROGRAM PRESENTS ART ACTIVITIES FROM MAY - JULY

 

Following a successful first edition of ‘Wednesdays at the Warehouse’, the second installment which will run from May to July presents a curated program of performances, talks and workshops that complements the new exhibition Departure, by Spanish sculptor Xavier Mascaró, which opened on 4 May at Warehouse421.

Abu Dhabi’s cultural community were introduced to a monthly program from January to April, that invited the public to participate in a diverse selection of family oriented arts activities including workshops, film screenings and panel discussions every other Wednesday.

The second edition of the program will run for three months and offers the audience a range of activities inspired by Mascaró’s exhibition, Departure which touches on concepts of Abu Dhabi’s traditional relationship as a historical port-city. In addition to the works on display which include 27 boat installations, the exhibition take visitors on a behind-the-scenes journey into Mascaró’s studio, where a selection of his drawings, sketches and models showcase his process of creation.

“‘Wednesdays at the Warehouse’ continues to support emerging artists and cultural practitioners here in the UAE through programs that enrich the artistic scene in the Emirate,” says Faisal Al Hassan, Public Programs Manager. “Through this second edition of the program, we aim to strengthen community involvement through contemporary discussions, live poetry readings and family workshops.”

‘Wednesdays at the Warehouse’, collaborates again with the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Emerging Artists Fellowship (SEAF) who will lead four workshops, and for the first time, Rooftop Rhythms, the Middle East’s longest-running poetry open mic and live performance collective, who will present two performances.
