Join us for an educators evening to explore artworks in our two winter exhibitions. In Gallery 1, Alla Abdunabi’s solo exhibition “Are your memories of me enough for you?” invites viewers to engage with the complexities of symbol preservation and its impact on power dynamics. The exhibition critiques how icons, particularly the narrative of the Barbary Lion, highlights the lasting effects of colonial violence on cultural memory.
In Gallery 2, Abdullah Al Saadi’s “Sites of Memory, Sites of Amnesia”, curated by Tarek Abou El Fetouh, offers an intimate exploration of remembrance and forgetting. This exhibition features eight artworks inspired by Al Saadi’s journeys through the UAE wilderness, reflecting on the deep connections between landscape, heritage, and personal history.
Together, these exhibitions create a rich dialogue on memory, representation, and the impact of history on our understanding of the present and future. They challenge us to think critically about the symbols we encounter and their significance in shaping our cultural narratives
This after-work event is for UAE-based educators and offers an opportunity for teachers to utilize contemporary art made by regional artists as part of learning tools presented in the classroom. With this hands-on experience, we encourage educators to embark on a journey of exploration and inquiry within arts and culture.
All materials and light refreshments will be included.
