Murtaasha tote bag by Lest We Forget

This lightweight tote bears an illustration of a traditional Emirati merta’asha gold necklace. Traditionally, Emirati brides wore beautiful merta’asha necklaces on their weddings. The study sketch on the side was created by Shauna Emig, a student of the University of Edinburg, during her summer internship at Lest We Forget. 

Lest We Forget is an innovative archival and research initiative that documents Emirati vernacular cultural memory and generates contemporary responses through the use of artistic language. Lest We Forget collaborates with individuals, families and communities to create artistic books, exhibitions, films, animations, product designs and even an opera.
