Terazzo pens by Sakeb
This monolithic, sculptural design reintroduces terrazzo into an everyday object: a pen. As opposed to its traditional use as a surface material, this light and easy to hold pen allows you to closely feel the texture and cool temperature of the marble; turning the pen into an intimate and significant object, rather than a disposable item.
Sakeb is a project that aims to question the relation between material, form, and function by experimenting with different material combinations to design everyday objects. Sakeb was first launched in 2019 in Ramallah, Palestine, as the winning proposal for an open call by the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center to design everyday objects that can be used for functional or aesthetic purposes. It was later displayed and sold in a number of exhibitions around the world, such as Amman Design Week 2019, Dubai Design Week 2019, Jameel Arts Center, and Bait Obaid Al Shamsi in Sharjah For this product, the paste was molded into a chamfer-edged pencil that is easy to grip and sharpen with a cutter or sanding paper.
